SMU Announces Recipient of the First Legendary Communicator Award
CCPA division to honor Stan Levenson at April 20th Gala
DALLAS- Stan Levenson, a widely recognized Dallas public relations professional who began his career in Dallas nearly 40 years ago, will receive the first Legendary Communicator Award presented by the Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Division of SMU’s Meadows School of the Arts.
Levenson will be honored at the CCPA Division’s annual awards gala, “Celebrating Accomplishment,” on April 20th at SMU.
“Stan Levenson is a legend. He understands that messages must resonate to be effective,” says Dr. Rita Kirk, chair of the CCPA Division. “There are too many clients who want press attention but don’t think about what makes their message worthy. Stan does.”
Former executive vice president of Bozell & Jacobs, Inc., Levenson co-founded the advertising and PR firm of Levenson, Levenson & Hill in 1984. In 2004, Levenson Public Relations merged with Brinker Communications to form Levenson & Brinker Public Relations. Levenson currently serves as the company’s chief executive officer.
Levenson’s contributions beyond his profession are testament to his dedication to the North Texas community at large, says Kirk. He served as senior public relations consultant to the City of Dallas Economic Development Department and was co-chairman of both the Southern Dallas marketing communications program and the Mayor’s Task Force on Marketing Dallas. Levenson also served a four-year term as a member of the Public Relations Sequence Advisory Board at SMU.
In 2000, Levenson was appointed to the Marketing and Communications Advisory Council for the Greater Dallas Chamber and also served on SMU’s Arts Administration and Corporate Communications Advisory Board. His affiliations are extensive, including service on the boards of the Urban League of Greater Dallas and North Central Texas, the Thanks-Giving Foundation and the American Heart Association Dallas Region, and he continues to be an active board member of SMU’s CCPA Division and has been a guest lecturer at the Business Leadership Center of SMU’s Cox School of Business.
The division selected Levenson as the award’s inaugural recipient for his demonstrated excellence in his profession, more than four decades of service, recognition and respect of his peers and his contribution to the education and inspiration of young practitioners.
“Stan is a mentor to many in the profession. He takes time for students who are just beginning and counsels those who are in mid-career,” adds Kirk. “He listens. He extends his friendship. He makes you feel special.”
The year-end celebration will recognize the Division’s top students, faculty and alumni. The evening will begin with a reception and silent auction, followed by a seated dinner. Tickets are $50. Call Nancy Kress at (214) 768-4359 for reservations.
The Corporate Communications and Public Affairs division of Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University teaches students how businesses, government and nonprofit institutions develop, plan and implement strategic communications programs. As one of the nation’s few accredited corporate communications programs, the division continues to grow every year and currently has more than 200 majors and minors.
